About Tom

Thomas C. Clemens, Esquire

Tom was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, and has lived in the city his entire life.  He attended Father Judge High School, and Saint Joseph’s University for college.  Tom earned his law degree from Temple University‘s James E. Beasley School of Law in 2010, where he attended law school in the evening while working full-time as a business development manager for an international corporation.  He is a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Growing up, Tom noticed that people like him – regular, normal, working-class people – didn’t need business lawyers, corporate lawyers, real estate lawyers or contract lawyers.  They needed lawyers that could assist and help them with everyday problems that arose in three areas of the law: criminal defense, personal injury, and family law.  It is for this reason that Tom decided to focus his entire practice on these areas of the law, and he loves to help people through their most trying times.  When you have Tom as your lawyer, he takes on your problems and makes them his own.

Criminal Defense Experience

For six and a half years, Tom prosecuted major crimes as an Assistant District Attorney with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.   He prosecuted dozens of jury trials to verdict, as well as hundreds of bench trials, motions to suppress evidence, motions to suppress statements, motions in limine, preliminary hearings, pre-trial and post-trial motions, and sentencings, with crimes ranging from multiple-defendant attempted murder cases, aggravated assaults, shootings, robbery, burglary, stabbings, drug dealing (PWID) cases, gun (VUFA) charges, theft, fraud, forgery, rape/sexual assault, DUI, drug possession and other crimes.

Tom’s vast experience as a major crimes prosecutor with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office forced him to review and assess the cases he handled for weaknesses, missing evidence, unanswered questions, and glaring inconsistencies in witness statements and investigations.  Tom would often be shocked when a defense attorney informed him that a defendant was going to “take a deal” or plead guilty, because Tom saw where the weaknesses in the case were and how the case could have easily been won by the defense.  Tom now brings this skill that he developed to “the other side of the courtroom”, as he now diligently and zealously represents those who have been charged with all types of crimes.  He will thoroughly review all of the evidence in your case with you and/or your loved one, and take his time to explain in detail the strengths, weaknesses and defense strategies.  Also, as a former prosecutor, Tom knows firsthand every argument, and every move, that the prosecution will make, and will plan your defense accordingly.

If you or a loved one has been arrested and/or charged with a crime, or is being investigated, contact Tom immediately.

Personal Injury Experience

After graduating law school, Tom first worked for a regional civil litigation defense firm, where he defended insurance companies and their clients against personal injury lawsuits.  After leaving the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Tom worked for a plaintiff’s personal injury firm in Philadelphia before starting his own law firm, Clemens Law, LLC.  During that time, Tom represented working-class men and women who were injured due to the negligence of others.  He specializes in representing people who have been injured in medical malpractice, construction accidents, slip-and-fall (premises liability) accidents, trucking accidents, motor vehicle accidents, dog bite accidents, overserving of alcohol (dram shop accidents), and accidents caused by defective products.

Tom also has partnerships with larger plaintiff’s personal injury law firms in the region, and in certain cases, Tom will partner with those firms to handle your case, so that you have two firms for the price of one.   Regardless, If you have been injured due to someone  else’s negligence, contact Tom first, and immediately, so that he can begin an investigation and help to gather evidence beneficial to your personal injury claim.
